Stories of Health Disparities

Date of Review: November, 2020

In this two-week online elective, learners develop awareness, understanding, and empathy for the challenges faced by underserved patient populations and begin to propose strategies to overcome these challenges. Course enrollees engage in a blended didactic approach that incorporates reading texts, watching videos, practicing reflective writing, and communicating with classmates. The author has selected a number of resources that can be used toward this purpose. Although the structure of the course is geared toward medical students, it could easily be adapted for a more general audience-the resources included lend themselves to discussion and would be a wonderful starting place for further implementation. . –Elizabeth Scharle, MD, NCEAS
