Community of Practice

Welcome to the Community of Practice!

“Communities of practice are a practical way to frame the task of managing knowledge. They provide a concrete organization infrastructure for realizing the dream of a learning organization.” – Dr. Etienne Wenger

We are excited to announce the inaugural Community of Practice (CoP). The CoP is co-hosted by the National Collaborative for Education to Address the Social Determinants of Health (NCEAS), Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine (KPSOM), and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  Our community of practice is an interprofessional group of healthcare professionals who are passionate about teaching and learning about the social determinants of health. With the goal of fostering collaboration and discovery, community members contribute in a variety of ways to advance change in preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to address social determinants of health.

Our group co-hosted a symposium called “Social and Structural Drivers of Health in Medical Education” in December, 2023 at KPSOM. Click here to learn more information.

The Community of Practice presents a monthly lecture series called “SDOH in Medical Education: Hot Topics and Work in Progress” The session is held the last Friday of the month at 12pm (PST). Recordings of previous sessions are posted below.
