Minnesota Health Literacy Project

Date of Review: February, 2020

This resource provides training materials and presentations created by the Minnesota Health Literacy Partnership to educate individuals and health professionals on health literacy and its relationship to health equity. The toolkit includes several powerpoint presentations, speaker guides, and activities to orient learners to the impact of basic health literacy as well as specific strategies for providers to enhance their communication skills – such as using plain language, the teach back method, and Ask Me 3. This resource would be useful for educators to enhance skills of learners at all levels (students, residents, or practicing providers) to communicate effectively with patients with low health literacy.—Erin Goss, MD, NCEAS
