The Impact of Racism on Health: A Health Equity Training on Structural Racism for Military Residents and Fellows

Date of Review: January, 2025

This resource, from MedED PORTAL,  that approaches the introduction of broad social determinants of health to Pediatric and ENT residents specifically at Military Medical Centers. This is a stand alone curriculum that incorporates a large lecture format, large group discussion, and small group case based discussion with small group debrief. I believe that this curriculum is easy to understand and implement as an introduction to several broader social determinants concepts. This curricula serves its purpose of being more specific to Military Medical Centers by including vignettes and information specific to that population but I believe it could also be used in other settings. It comes with an introduction slide deck that focuses on health disparities and includes clear instructions for how to lead all sections of the intervention which I believe would allow for its use in other settings as well. –Noah Lybik, MD, NCEAS
