Learning by Doing, and Doing it Right – Building a Multi-Dimensional Social Determinants of Health Curriculum in a Rural Internal Medicine Residency
Date of Review: April, 2026
This resource offers a template for developing an experiential SDOH curriculum for resident training. The curriculum focuses on applied learning and community engagement. The authors provide links to a screening tool for pt intake process the questionnaires and examples of community resources they used. The curriculum is spaced out over 2 years and seems relatively simple to implement once faculty identifies a community partner. Although it may be difficult finding that community partner, the investment in that activity is what makes this curriculum shine. –Andrea McKinnond, MMS, PA-C, NCEAS
