HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis Education for Clinicians Caring for Spanish-Speaking Men Who Have Sex With Men (MSM)
Date of Review: January, 2022
This resource from MedEd PORTAL is a Spanish language educational module for clinicians to discuss PrEP with patients. This was adapted from and English language module and is described using the 6-step Kern model. The module aims to reduce the health disparity in the Hispanic community of incidence of HIV among Spanish-speaking men who have sex with men (MSM). This workshop familiarizes learners with PrEP to increase their comfort in prescribing this life-saving medication, specifically for this at-risk group of patients. The workshop includes a Spanish ppt slide deck, English ppt slide deck, Spanish audio-guided slide deck, English audio guided slide deck, discussion guide, patient-physician video with Spanish and English transcript, pre and post survey about confidence and comfort with the material. This workshop can easily be adapted for use during clinical care rotations to teach students how to discuss PrEp and is especially useful in an additional language like Spanish! –Ashti Doobay-Persaud, MD, NCEAS
