Healthcare for LGBTQIA+ Youth
Date of Review: July, 2023
This online module, from the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center, provides a concise introduction to health risks and protective factors particular to LGBTQIA+ youth. The module primarily includes didactic slides with one brief case study. There is a small amount of interactive content in which users respond to questions embedded in the presentation. Learners are assessed with several knowledge checking questions during the module and a post survey that explores attitudes about the helpfulness of the content. This module is appropriate for any level of health care learner and can be easily completed in one sitting on the learner’s own time. It includes specific suggestions for how providers can better promote LGBTQIA+ health in the clinical setting. Since it delivers a fairly broad overview of this content and does not provide opportunities for discussion or reflection, it might best serve as an introduction to this important health issue to be accompanied by other learning modalities (small group session, experiential session) that help learners engage more deeply with this content. —Emma Anselin, MD, NCEAS
