What is the NCEAS Education Collection?

NCEAS accepts submissions of innovative curricula or components that others can use to train learners about social determinants of health.

Submissions are peer reviewed by our community of practice members. If accepted, they are published on the National Collaborative for Education to Address the Social Determinants of Health Education Collection Website Page.

Submissions are accepted in the following curricular focus areas:
  • Social determinants of health
  • Health equity
  • Health disparities
  • Population health

Authors are credited for their work. Authors are requested to regularly update the curricular materials posted by NCEAS. Curriculum that is not updated may be removed from the site.

Submissions are reviewed based on the following criteria:
  • Contains all essential elements for replication in another setting. Learner assessment tools are strongly encouraged to be included.
  • Can be easily replicated entirely or in part, in other teaching settings or varying size and structure
  • Can be placed in a the public domain
  • All content in the submission must be original work by one of the authors, and author must hold copyright.  Material whose copyright is not held by the author should be removed from the resource prior to submission unless the authors include written permission from the copyright owner to include it
  • Content is likely to remain current, or require minimal updates, for at least 3 years
  • Expected submission length is 3-5 pages plus appendices/accompanying resources

Submission guidelines
The content must be:
  • Digital
  • Copyrighted by the depositor or the depositor’s proxy
  • If the curriculum has been posted on another website or journal, it is the author’s responsibility to only submit items that can be re-posted on our site.
Examples of the types of items that are appropriate for the education collection include:
  • Slide presentations which are annotated for use by other educators
  • Cases for use in small groups, problem-based learning, or team-based learning
  • Video or audio files for use in a teaching session
  • Assessments for learners, along with answer keys or rubrics
Examples of items that would not be accepted to the education collection are
  • Presentations or articles describing a curriculum, without the primary resources needed for educators to reproduce the curriculum

Withdrawal

We may find it necessary to remove content from the Education Collection, due to circumstances such as:

  • Outdated content
  • Proven copyright violation or plagiarism
  • Legal requirements and proven violations
  • National Security
  • Falsified research

A request for removal should be directed to the NCEAS administrators and include the reasons for withdrawal. NCEAS staff may contact the requestor for additional information.  If you need to withdraw your content, please email contact@sdoheducation.org

Preservation of NCEAS Content

NCEAS is committed to supporting sustainable access to selected digital collection content for the foreseeable future. Our specific plans for doing this are subject to change as new and emerging technologies affect the ability to preserve digital content.

Copyright and Licensing of Content in NCEAS-Education Collection

Copyright owners retain copyright over their content once it has been deposited in NCEAS-Education Collection. By putting content into NCEAS Education Collection, copyright owners grant NCEAS certain rights as outlined in the copyright release form, reproduced below:

I, _________________, grant to NCEAS the non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free right to digitize the work identified below (the “work”) and to archive, reproduce, distribute, display, disseminate, perform, and transmit the work, in whole or in part, without restriction or limitation, and to authorize others to do so, for educational and promotional purposes, in all formats now or hereafter known. I represent and warrant that I am the sole owner of the copyright in the work, that the work does not infringe or violate any rights of others, and that I have the authority to grant the rights requested in this agreement. I acknowledge that I retain the copyright of the work. I have obtained any necessary third-party rights and will provide copies of these permissions upon request by NCEAS. I expressly release NCEAS, its trustees, officers, agents, employees, licensees, and assignees, from any and all claims, including without limitation copyright, privacy, and defamation claims, arising out of any use, broadcast, exhibition, publication, or promotion of this work.

As part of deposit you must select a license. This license is your opportunity to explain to the end user exactly what they can or cannot do with your work. NCEAS prefers but does not require that materials be made available with a Creative Commons (CC) license. Before applying a CC license to your material, please be sure that you hold all the necessary rights to the work (i.e., that they have not been given to a publisher). Terms of Use

By using or downloading the data, users agree to give appropriate attribution to the author(s) of the data in any publication that employs resources provided by the Data Repository. For more information, please read our Terms of Use.

Termination Plan

Should the funding or organizational imperatives of the NCEAS change, we will strive to provide at least one year notice, and devote resources to support the transition to another host institution and/or returning the data to the data producers.
