Trauma Toolbox for Primary Care

Date of Review: December, 2019

This resource is a web-based 6-part series designed to address adverse childhood experiences (ACE) in the primary care setting. The 6 items in the toolbox are (available also in Spanish): 1/ACE and Lifelong consequences of trauma, 2/Addressing ACE and other types of trauma, 3/ the medical home approach to identifying and responding to exposure to trauma, and resources for the patients (4/Bring out the best in your children, 5/ when things aren’t perfect, caring for yourself and your children) , and for self-care: 6/ protecting physician wellness; working with children affected by traumatic events. The sessions can be taught independently or as a series, and each offers valuable, practical instructional material. The series do not have an assessment method, which would need to be created to measure pre/post knowledge. — Monica Yepes-Rios, MD, NCEAS
