The National Collaborative for Education to Address the Social Determinants of Health (NCEAS) was originally a HRSA-funded Academic Unit for Primary Care Training and Enhancement. The mission of the NCEAS is to prepare primary care clinicians with the expertise and leadership to address the social determinants of health (SDOH).

Submissions Now OpenSubmit your abstract or workshop proposal for the 2025 Conference. Submissions close on October 25th. The 2025 NCEAS Annual Conference is scheduled for February 24th and 25th. Our theme this year is Healthcare Delivery Steps Up to Social Care: Implications for Health Professions Education.

Addressing hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in rural Uganda: a sustainable approach to workforce capacity development and global health education

Over the last several years, the WHO has prioritized quality of care in already established health systems while inspiring those health systems to evaluate and empower mid-level providers in the provision of obstetrical care. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are largely underdiagnosed in Sub-Saharan Africa due to lack of education and capacity for intrapartum care providers to diagnose and manage this spectrum, resulting in high rates of maternal morbidity and mortality. We developed an educational curriculum for midwives in rural Masindi in partnership with a non-governmental organization aimed at eliminating health disparities for the people of Uganda.

Social Mission Alliance: Free tool measuring institutional commitment to health equity

Last month, all US medical schools were invited to participate in the updated Social Mission Mission Metrics Self-Assessment. This is our chance to make a difference and to ensure that social mission efforts, from pathways to admissions, curriculum and research, to community engagement and beyond, are also measured in this survey process. Learn more about what is being measured, how you can get involved, and how this unique Self-Assessment Survey fills a key gap in national surveys on school contributions toward health equity.

Resource of the Month

Considering Culture and Conflict: A Novel Approach to Active Bystander Intervention

Medical students, residents, and faculty participated in a virtual active bystander intervention workshop and were then assessed on willingness to intervene in ten clinical scenarios following participation in the workshop. This workshop was facilitated by the department of psychiatry however I think can be used/ applied for other specialties. This was a strong partnership with the DEI Office at Stanford and had a high rate of participation.
