The Case of Sean Smith: A Three-Part Interactive module on Transgender Health for Second-Year Medical Students:

This resource describes a multimodal workshop developed by Rutgers New Jersey Medical School to inform healthcare professionals about transgender health. The workshop consists of a didactic session that reviews the unique health issues and disparities experienced by transgender patients, small-group sessions which involve analyzing examples of competent and poor communication between healthcare providers and transgender patients. Finally, a panel featuring members of the transgender community allowed healthcare providers to learn more about their experiences as a transgender person receiving care. This resource could be easily adaptable for preclinical students or during a clerkship to discuss and teach about care of transgendered patients. –Ashti Doobay Persaud, MD, NCEAS
