Be AWARE: An Anti-bias Toolkit to Limit Bias in Narrative Evaluation of Medical Trainees
Date of Review: July, 2026
This resource is a curriculum to address bias in writing medical student evaluations. It is a quick resource that can be easily implemented to provide those who write these narrative components awareness of current language biases that exist and opportunities to avoid them in the future. I think it could be a good addition to faculty development, particularly for those who work closely with medical student trainees. A limitation of the resource is that it doesn’t not specifically address language struggling learners—something which the authors address as a future direction. –Kathleen Kelly, MD, NCEAS
