An Innovative Curriculum to Empower Trainees and Faculty to Address Patient-Initiated Identity-Based Misconduct in the Clinical Learning Environment
Date of Review: July, 2026
This resource provides a toolkit and workshop template about how to address patient-initiated identity-based misconduct in the clinical learning environment. It is structured by providing a space for open discussion, learning of how to use the I-RESPOND toolkit, and practice with patient scenarios on using the skills. This also helped inform institutional policies on how to address these situations. This resource provides easy access to the toolkit, presenter guide, facilitators’ guide and the workshop presentation, which would provide an opportunity for institutions to ensure diversity is celebrated and misconduct isn’t tolerated. –Bako Orionzi, MD, NCEAS
