Twelve tips for Teaching Social Determinants of Health in Medicine

This resource is an article that provides 12 recommendations for teaching social determinants of health to undergraduate medical students. This paper highlights curricular and instructional strategies that can be implemented in medical schools to teach the social determinants of health. The resource is intended for all medical educators and medical curriculum developers and is easy to integrate into introductory material, activities are included and it is very easy to use. Educators can use the provided tips to engage medical students and faculty. Personally, I used many of the learning activities in this article in a workshop on teaching health equity for faculty in 2016 and it was successful. —Ashti Doobay-Persaud, MD, NCEAS
