Scholars & Leaders in Interprofessional Geriatrics
Date of Review: July, 2025
This is a three-week curriculum, preceded by a six-week orientation and paper proposal period, designed to teach patient- and family-centered geriatric care in interprofessional teams. Students engage in interactive lectures, experiential learning in community-based settings, reflective discussions, and a scholarly paper presentation with strong interprofessional focus, hands-on experiential learning, structured mentorship, validated assessment tools measuring collaborative practice self-efficacy, and flexible course delivery options. While the intensive format may limit exposure due to time constraints, the pre-course preparation and ongoing mentorship support meaningful learning. This curriculum is particularly valuable for addressing attitudes about aging, preparing students to provide ethical, comprehensive care for older adults within diverse healthcare teams. –Yaritzy Astudillo, MD, NCEAS
