The mission of the NCEAS is to prepare primary care clinicians with the expertise and leadership to address the social determinants of health (SDOH).

Keynote Speaker Announced for 1st Annual NCEAS Conference

The NCEAS is pleased to announce that Dr. Andrew Bazemore will be the keynote speaker at the 1st Annual National Collaborative for Education to Address the Social Determinants of Health Conference. Dr. Bazemore is the director of the Robert Graham Center for Policy Studies in Family Medicine and Primary Care where he directs research related to the health workforce, access to care for underserved populations, spatial analysis and other health topics.

Registration for the NCEAS 1st Annual Conference is now full, but there’s still time to submit a poster abstract! Abstracts are due March 31st, 2019 at 11:59pm CT

Presenters for accepted poster proposals will be able to register for the conference.

Expanding Diversity: Transgender Actors and Their Role in Undergraduate Medical Curriculum

In this webinar, the presenters discuss their journey towards diversifying standardized patient (SP) pools at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine to reflect the patient population that learners engage with in the Chicago area. They focus on the use of transgender SPs within the curriculum as an example of diversification – specifically discussing the roles and cases the transgender actors play, and how they contribute to the communication skills of learners.

Resource of the Month

“Addressing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH): Beyond the Clinic Walls”
This resource aims to help practicing clinicians to engage with social determinants of health at the clinical practice level. Through a series of brief modules, it defines social determinants of health, shares resources to learn more about social determinants of health within one’s community, and then walks clinicians through the steps needed to implement plans to address social determinants of health at the practice level.
