Elective Course in Culture and Diversity

This resource, from MedEdPORTAL, is a comprehensive well thought out elective curriculum consisting of 20 2-3 hour long sessions per week addressing cultural competency and diversity. The resource includes a full syllabus, references, tools for evaluation, a concrete grading system, and links to tools used in the course. It is specifically mentioned that it can be used whole ore separated into parts and be partially or fully integrated into other curriculum. It is geared towards 1st and 2nd year medical students but individual parts could be adapted to residents and other learners. It is primarily a guide since it does not have the actually lecture outlines that were delivered. While it is very worthwhile, it would require faculty with expertise, or invited lecturers, as wells as supported time for the faculty (4 hours/week in addition to the actual course time) in order to implement it. – Barbara Bayldon, MD, NCEAS
